Support Underserved Woman

Our fundraising goal is $30,000. This year, the funds will be used toward the physician referral program. Boston Medical Center sends patients to Healthworks Community Fitness to reduce chronic disease by participating in fitness. We give patients a three month membership to do so.

Healthworks Community Fitness is a 501(c) non-profit organization serving the communities of Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan.  Membership provides access to fitness programs, world-class equipment & facilities, nutrition & health education workshops, a state-of-the-art community teaching kitchen, and an amazing and empowering environment.

Membership Gifts

Donating three months of membership will help someone start a new fitness and nutrition program and twelve months can change a life. Any donation amount is welcome.

Physician Referral Program

Healthworks Community Fitness works directly with community health centers and hospitals to provide more comprehensive patient care. We provide free, introductory memberships for patients who have been prescribed exercise to manage diabetes, obesity, hypertension and mood disorders. Healthcare providers are welcome to contact us for more information on this program. Also check out the recent Associated Press article that featured our program.

Community Teaching Kitchen

Our new on-site Community Teaching Kitchen is a 650 Square feet modern demonstration space with up to 12 work stations. You will learn simple, healthful concepts to tie into your home kitchen while practicing basic cooking skills in a modern kitchen setting.

On Site Programming

  • Woman Be Fit, a results-driven 8 week comprehensive fitness training program
  • Fitspiration! exciting and dynamic youth fitness classes for boys and girls ages 6 – 12 years old
  • Girl Almighty Teen Fitness Program – a 4 week fitness and conditioning class for girls ages 12 years to 18 years old.
  • Senior Be Fit – a structured progressive training program for senior women 55+ two times per week.
  • Tiny Tot Fitness – a Mommy & Me structured class focusing on early education development for babies.

Our History

Healthworks Community Fitness in Codman Square features state of the art equipment, a full group exercise schedule, fitness programming for all ages including an 8-week comprehensive training program called Woman Be Fit, a modern locker room and complimentary child care for our members.  Opened in 2008, Healthworks Community Fitness serves over 3000 women and children annually and enrolls over 250 women per year in its programming.

Our Innovation

Healthworks Community Fitness innovative model combines a public health need with a preventative intervention.  Since 2012, HCF has redeemed over 3500 exercise prescriptions to women managing or at risk for chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity and high blood lipids.

Our Partners

Healthworks Community Fitness was founded by a partnership between Codman Square Health Center and the Healthworks Group of Boston.  Healthworks Community Fitness is located next to the new nonprofit grocery store in Dorchester, The Daily Table.  HCF partners with Boston Medical Center, Dorchester House, Boston Children’s Hospital Office of Community Health, Boston Public Schools Health & Wellness Dept., Carney Hospital and healthcare institutions throughout Boston to provide complimentary memberships with an exercise prescription.

HCF was selected to partner with a pilot program sponsored by Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Massachusetts called the Healthy Living Collaborative or Dot Rx.  This pilot prescription program features five Codman Square based nonprofits and is aiming to serve 100 families to lead active healthy lives.

HCF at Codman was designed to rival any upscale facility by serving all income levels. HCF provides:
